I am just asking this in case I need to stay with my US iTunes account. I did create a new UK iTunes account so that I could use the BBC iPlayer after I couldn't use it on my android

It's not a criminal violation, but it is a violation of the iTunes Store terms of use to use any iTunes Store from outside of its country. It may also be a violation of the license for any given app or content. Should Apple discover such use, they would be within their rights to disable your account.
