What should I do if my charger overheats?

My macbook charger gets so hot at the junction where the skinny wire connects to the white box that I thought it had burned me! I'm very nervous to use it and I don't know what to do.

You may need to consider a replacement MagSafe adapter

but should see about getting an inspection or diagnostic check

of the computer at an Apple Store; if one nearby or in driving

range has a Genius bar, call ahead to set an appointment.

The basic information on troubleshooting (article) does not

appear to dive deep into the hot wire issue; I've heard of it.

•Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe Adapters

•Reducing cable strain on MacSafe Adapter:

Since the MagSafe Board (a DC-in Board) in the MacBook

may have something to do with extra resistance and heat

generation in the wire going between the Mac & Charger,

that may be something a tech could inspect.

Also, if there is any debris in or on the MagSafe contacts

that are in the MacBook or the plug/wire connection, be

sure to carefully remove that which may pose a weak or

incomplete connection of these, that may increase heat

due to poor connections.

An inspection of the computer, ac adapter, battery, and

test/diagnostic of charging system, may help determine

any unseen causes of a pending failure in them.

Hopefully you can get an expert to look into it.

Good luck! 😐
