Undo button is killing me

I want to kill the undo button! I hit it all the time when going for the "." And because I type fast I always type more than one char so the dumb shake "feature" doesn't work. Anyone else driven crazy and losing lots of posts and emails due to undo?

iPad 2, iOS 7.1.1

theres another post on this dated Oct 2017.

I have lost hundreds of paragraphs of typing with that undo key which l hit because it suddenly appeared where my thumb thinks the space bar still is. I can't get those paragraphs back with the undo key or redo key, instead it only recovered the first word or two! I also had problems adjusting to the numbers and punctuation on the letters keys. I would try the swipe down 2 or 3 times and often hit the key below it. The apostrophe, quotes, exclamation, and question mark keys were the worst offenders.

I gave up and went back to using the number keyboard but that is where the new undo key resides just next to the space bar. So instead of placing punctuation, I would undo paragraphs of typing.

I posted feedback on the Apple store site. Then I downloaded and tried a number of keyboards.

The best I could find was Google's. For me I needed large keys to see, others were just too busy, too dark or the keys were too small for my vision. It has a glide option that works well if you don't hold a bigger iPad with 2 hands. You have to rest it and use one hand to glide with one finger across the keys, then stop on the letter that spells the word. It's pretty cool because it inserts apostrophes and space between words and double consonants even with a single finger stop. It also autocorrects.

The spell corrector is top notch for 2 thumb typing and so far has done well at anticipating the correct words in addition to correcting spelling in my intended words. I had turned off Apple's auto correct spelling but this one seems to be better at it. For some reason, with two thumb typing I used to hit the M key often instead of the space bar. The Google keyboard auto removed the M and recognized that a space was needed instead. It also auto capitalizes the letter I when typing first person.

It has the UNDO/REDO icons in the left upper corner along with a clipboard and bold, italics, and underline options in the right upper corner. It can be used without granting full access unless you want to search the internet using the Google icon on the keyboard.

The only thing I found lacking is the dictation microphone icon. In the settings, keyboard menu, I dragged the Google glide keyboard to the top as my first choice and put the default apple one at the bottom under the emoji keyboard. Now I can switch between them if I want to dictate.

I too am very frustrated with the pop up UNDO button displacing the Space Bar in iOS11 on my iPad. I have lost valuable time and lots of text when touch typing as normal and wish to insert a space bar between numbers or after a question mark. There appears no logic to how much text is deleted and there is no REDO option to recover lost text.

This is a unnecessary addition and Apple need to remove this split Space Bar/UNDO button. Get a grip Apple!
