Iphone ipsw download stops at 320mb

Help, recently sold my mac so now using my partners old pc running vista, my iphone is stuck in recovery mode, whenever I try plugging it into itunes it starts to restore but then I always get an error message at about 40% complete. I am trying to download an ipsw so I can try and restore the phone without itunes. I have tried downloading from various sites, the download always gets to 320mb and stops, I tried various suggestions from search engines but no joy. I asked Microsoft they said it's an apple issue.

Tried different web browsers, different sites to download from, different ipsw's from ranging from around 800mb to about 1.2gb, always gets to 320mb and acts as though the download is complete. I also plugged my partners iphone into the pc and tried to do an update but again started updating on itunes then stopped about half way. I'm not the most technical but I've even learnt about hosts file and ran a fix it to reset it, ran a registry fix it, I'm out of ideas, the only other thing I can do is try a friends computer, but I would prefer to be able to get the pc I'm using to work, some genius most know why it gets stopping at 320mb? There is over 26gb available on the hard drive!

Thanks for reply, I'm trying itunes but just won't work, that's why I've been trying to download ipsw manually, my partners iphone is fine but when I tried to update her software using itunes again it gets so far and stops! Latest version of itunes is installed! I'm guessing the same issue that is stopping me from downloading manually is the same issue with itunes.
