Ipod nano wont turn on

Hi, I have an iPod nano and have just set up itunes etc. I have followed all instructions to set it up. As soon as it is all charged and ready to eject I eject and then the iPod will not turn on. It is as if it wont turn on without beging connected to the latop. Any suggestions? Many thanks
