A Mac Pro (desktop) or a MacBook Pro (laptop)? And if so, what year was it bought?

Depending on the  answers, you may be able to use Airplay Mirroring to send your screen and audio through an AppleTV connected to the TV with an HDMI cable. You would have to purchase the AppleTV ($99).

Thank you for your reply Matt!

I have not yet bought the computer but I am going to buy a MacBook Pro laptop, so its the newest one so to say. And thats why I want to know how it works with my TV. So maybe I have to buy a AppleTV also, how does that work?

    Hi Annie

Here's the Apple page on Airplay Mirroring.

Basically, it's a way for Macs and iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, etc) to send their screens and sound to an AppleTV on the same wireless network. You connect the AppleTV to your TV using an HDMI cable (they don't come with a cable, so you have to buy one if you don't have a spare), then use its included remote to connect it to your wifi network. (Alternatively, you can cable it to your router with a network cable if it's nearby.)

Once that's done, you would use the Airplay menu on your Mac to mirror to the AppleTV, make sure your TV input is tuned to the correct HDMI port, and you'll see your Mac's desktop mirrored to the TV.

Airplay works with Integrated Graphics modes of recent MacBook computers, and not with the more powerful discrete graphics available in other computers. It takes advantage of some built-in functions of the Integrated Graphics chips.

This does not work in the general case because without those Hardware assists, there is too much overhead and not enough bandwidth to allow it to work.

    lllaass-

You are quite right. They seem to have found a way to make the newest Mac Pros do AirPlay mirroring as well. I stand corrected.

You have caught me being out-of-date.

Thank you all for your help and answers!

Matt, due to your instructions i actually seems easy to connect it to my wifi network and the TV to the AppleTV. I will now buy a MacBook Pro and a AppleTV and get started.
