I have a ipad2, apple tv 2, an iphone 4 and and iphone 5s - after ensuring they are running the most recent software the airplay icon is not shown on any of them. I have also ensured they are all connected to same wireless network and all other suggestions on the various sites but no sign of any airplay icons?
update all devices to latest ios version (iphone4 don't support airplay mirror at all)
make sure all are connected to wifi on the same subnet airplay mirror don't work across the Internet
make sure your wifi router allow the ports required by airplay mirror

I did all of this and there is no airplay icon on any of the three devices?
I would troubleshoot by bringing the appletv to another network at friends and or family and the ios devices to verify that the wifi router you have was the problem and not compatible
This all worlked until I updated to the latest software. Why can these idiots at apple not sort this crap out before they release the software? I am amazed that the answer seems to be to take my apple tv and all three other devices to a friends home to eliminate a router as the problem (same router as before)?
