Pressing record triggers note from roland keyboard...? (no caps lock keyboard)

This is driving me crazy.

I have a new Roland Rd-300nx and for some reason when I press record (either by pressing 'r' or the record button with my mouse) in logic, the F# two octaves below middle C gets triggered at what sounds like 127 velocity.

Any ideas? I guess it's something to do with outgoing midi messages, but this surparses my knowledge of midi/computers.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Deleting devices doesn't help. It seems as though it would be a MIDI problem. However, Instrument plugin recordings work ok. The problem occurs when using an external device (Motif XF). The sound (continuous, which can only be stopped by choosing a new preset) when pushing either record or stop, a delay in the sound when recording (approx. 1 second) and more recently, an inability to record more than one track (MIDI is seen on the 2nd track but only the 1st track sounds). After quite a few hours of frustration, I certainly cannot recommend Logic Pro X if using an external synth as a sound source. (I'm using a Macbook Pro with Mavericks installed and a Midiman interface.)
