itunes will not update
Checks for and finds available update but when download box is pressed ther box disappears from screen and no update takes place

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would recommend trying when experiencing this issue.
Issues installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows

If you are still unable to update iTunes, completely uninstall iTunes and all of it's components as outlined in the article below. These steps will not remove and of your iTunes media or backup information.
