When it finishes downloading, the installer will be in Finder > Applications. Until that time it is a temporary file.
When it finishes downloading, the installer will be in Finder > Applications. Until that time it is a temporary file.
It should arrive in your Applications folder as a file named Install OS X (or similar). Also, Launchpad should show it downloading.
You might want to make a copy of it before running the installer as it self-deletes on installation. Might save you another 5.3Gb download in the future.
There may be no progress bar apparent for Mavericks in the App Store. It may be a bug associated with this particular download.
To determine if it is actually downloading use Launchpad. You should see a fairly obvious new icon with an associated progress bar. Make sure you check every Launchpad page by swiping left / right.
If it's paused, click the icon to restart it.
Once it completes the icon will appear in Applications and Launchpad, it's just easier to find in Launchpad.
When it's finished downloading it looks like this:
You can also watch the download progress by opening Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal and at the cursor prompt type:
ls -l /Library/Updates which is where downloading file lives until it completes and then is moved to Applications.
The temp file does not have a name, but uses a number identifier.
