I would like to find out how to disable 'canadian holidays' having access to my iCalendar.

On what device, or computer are you observing these "canadian holidays?"

What version of OS X are you using?
OS X 10.9, Mavericks has an option to display, or not display the appropriate Holidays calendar in Calendar>Preferences...>General.

Without divulging any personal information, what calendars are displayed in your Calendar application when you click on the "Calendars" button in the upper left corner of the Calendar window?
Also, are you using any syncing service?

I have done the OSX update and now I am able to uncheck the calendars (when I click on Calendars) in the top left) I do not want populating my calendar. Canadian Holidays is still there, but unchecked. Are you able to advise how I can get rid of this entirely? I don't know how it turned up! Thanks very much for your help.

If you have upgraded to OS X 10.9, open Calendar and go to Calendar>Preferences...>General> and uncheck "Show Holidays calendar."
