Q: Using us-bought iphone in France, with French carrier

My French foreign exchange student bought a sprint iphone 5s and has used it here in the US for a year. She now wants to "turn it off" here, take it with her to France, and use it with a French carrier there. What does she need to do? "Unlock" it? (How?) Get a SIM card for it? From French carrier, right?

The only way it can be unlocked is for the carrier to unlock it. She will have to deal with Sprint to get that done.

The user cannot unlock an iPhone themselves.

One thing to be aware of, she will not be able to access any 4G / LTE network in France. It will only work on 3G.
