How long do repairs usually take?

Had my new macbook for almost two months... worked fine, no problem. Then, after falling asleep for about 12 hours a week ago, it died. No power, no light, nothing. Tried all the fixes posted online, nothing helped, had to send it in.

One week later, the status page on Apple's site has yet to update, and when I phone tech support, the automated system says that they have sent me box and are waiting for me to return the product. When I talked to a live person 3 days ago, they said the macbook went into repair, but Apple's site hasn't updated yet.

Is this typical? The repair facility is only one state away from me... when can I expect my macbook back?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

interesting...

i just got off the phone w/ apple care and the part i was waiting on was the top case. i would have thought those would be in large abundance at this point.

she also said some other parts were going to be replaced, but nothing that needed to be ordered, and i was back in repair (although the website does not reflect that) and if no other parts need to be ordered (i would think they would have determined this when they ran the diagnositics to test the fan, etc) it should be returned by the end of the week.

granted, the online website still says everything is on hold , but perhaps there is an update delay.

here's hoping...

I was without my MacBook for 15 days. It took a couple of days for it to get to the repair depot from NY because when I finally talked to someone they said that they had my MacBook for 11 days. The lady I talked to bumped my repair up to Express for free. That happened on Friday, August 18. It was at my door at 9:20 am Monday, August 21.

That was my experience with repair, but I have read that people have had their MacBooks repaired and shipped back out to them on the same day. That gave them a total of only 3 days without their MacBook.

mine was sent out for bezel replacement and b/c the
fan was making a horrendous noise on tuesday, and it
is currently "on hold - part on order".

i'm curious to know what they are waiting on and how
much longer this is going to take as i really need my
macbook for work.

Where did you send it? You may be getting a new logic board.

good question - i dropped it off at the apple store on 5th ave in nyc, and they are the ones that shipped it out, so i'm not really sure where it would have gone.

if that is the case, i have the feeling i'm not going to see my macbook back for quite sometime, which is not going to be acceptable at all. i'm also slightly worried that it's going to come back missing ram or something along those lines.

I sent it in for Random Shutdowns. I was without my MacBook for 15 days. When I called Apple Care, the recording would say that my repair was on hold awaiting a needed part for repair. When I decided to wait (30 minutes) to talk to someone, they said that they had my computer for 11 days (that means it took about 2 days to get there and 2 more to get back). She apologized for the inconvenience and bumped my repair up to express for free. That was on Friday evening, it was at my door Monday morning at 9:20 AM.

15 days is definately not going to cut it on my end.

i am far from impressed with apple on this topic of support - at least dell offers on-site repair if you purchase that type of warranty.

i guess if there is no status change by wednesday, i will have to call to see what's going on. i will not be a happy camper if i have to go w/o over the long weekend.

assuming i am waiting for a logic board replacement, anyone know where they are shipped from?

China, if they are new, but Apple may be recycling them by rebuilding defective ones. That's what most companies do. That could also explain why some people that had their logic boards replaced are still experiencing shutdown. The rebuilt logic board still has problems. There's only 18 different thermal sensors in them. User uploaded file
