Using UK purchased iPhone in NZ

Hi, I purchased my iPhone 5 in the UK (direct from Apple, unlocked) but when I put a Skinny Mobile NZ sim card in it, it won't work - it says 'Sim not valid'. Any idea why this is? Is it a network/sim issue?

Normally, when your phone comes up with 'Sim not valid', it means that the phone is locked for some reason. It could be a sim card issue, in which case try changing the sim card for another one and if the same thing still happens, then contact the network provider/carrier. It could be that Skinny Mobile in NZ is not an official carrier for the iPhone there and if this is the case, then the sim card may well not work in your phone. You may need to use an officially recognised carrier.

Also, check that the phone is not locked by accident, although if you purchased it directly from an Apple store in the UK as unlocked, then it should be unlocked.
