Q: What could I do to clear the necessary 2GB of memory for this upgrade?

I need to clear 2GB of memory to be able to upgrade from Snow Loepard (OS X 10.6.3). Where can I find memory to clear that space. Obvious simple answers are definitely appreciated.

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.3)

    I think you are confused with what it is asking.

    There is a requirement to have at least 2GB of RAM installed to run Mavericks. That you must purchase and 2GB isn't going to be enough. Get as much as you can afford/install on that Mac. Purchase the RAM from Crucial, OWC, or MemoryTen.

     

    The other thing that it might be telling you is you don't have enough space on your startup disk. If that is the case, you must get rid of old documents from your home folder so that there is enough space on your hard drive. Either delete the stuff you no longer want, or move it to an external drive.

    Movies and Pictures will get you the most space the quickest as they are usually very large.

    If you move them to an external, you will have to delete the copies that remain on your Mac as it will default to copying the files onto the external.

    Once you have moved them off of your hard drive and onto an External or into the Trash, make sure you empty the Trash. Also, if you are using iPhoto, empty its Trash.

     

    My guess it is the latter as that Mac should have shipped with 2GB of RAM.

    After reading your advice, I think it must be the latter. I do have an external drive. I probably have not deleted all that I can on the startup disc.
