I can't make purchase from iTunes

I have the same problem. I go to the iTunes from iTunes on my Macbook Air. Find the music I want to buy. Click Buy. I get a message that flashes at the top of the screen that says "Purchasing". Then the message goes away. No purchase. No download. How do I fix this? There are some new albums I want to buy
