iPhoto loss after moving to OS X 10.9.2
I installed OS X 10.9.2 over Snow Leopard and lost iPhoto together with a few thousand pictures. How can I get it back?

Do you have a backup? Look in your User folder/Pictures and see if your iPhoto Library is there.
If you didn't purchase iPhoto, you will need to purchase it from the App Store.
If you have the disks that came with your computer, check Disk 2 to see if you can install it from there.
iPhoto Upgrade under Mavericks see post by Old Toad
I now realise that I have lost all of my previous data including documents like spreadsheets and written files, together with some applications like Open Office. My life story is in there somewhere. It looks as if I need to reverse the update from Snow Leopard to Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2). Is that possible? I thank you guys very much for your posts in trying to help me.
Do you mean that the files have vanished, or do you mean that you can't open them because the applications don't work?
I cannot find them in the new Finder. I do have some back-up for both document and photo files but not nearly enough to cover the losses. I thought I was doing an update and not an upgrade so did not bother to do a complete back-up. Luckily I have some stuff on an external drive.
My iMac 5 came complete with software loaded so I have no discs. At least I do not believe so. At 77 my recall is not so great. I shall have a feret about in my stuff to see.
If all your files are missing
Well guys, thank you for all of your help but I have had to bite the bullet on this one and accept the loss. I am rooting out as much back-up as I can find and friends are helping me with many of the pictures and documents. I guess the lesson is, more frequent back-ups and not to make assumptions. Thanks again, Dave.
