How to recover precious photos from a dead iPhone 3GS

Help. My pleasant elderly neighbor has been using a 3GS when it completely died. It won't boot with a new battery or with a good charger. She has a few precious pictures contained therein. She never knew about backing up the phone to her iMac.

Any suggestions as to where to send this phone to recover the pictures ? Told her about Drive Savers but the quote was quite high for her limited income. Drive Savers quoted $1,400 possibility to retrieve just four pictures.

Please advise where to send this phone, at what cost, and what has been your experience with such recovery.

Google will provide a listing of companies that can possibly recovery data, and yes it will be extremely expensive.

Have checked several places which indicate they do, but when calling them they indicate they do not. Hence the request for specific recommendations other than Drive Savers.

I can recall one I used some years back. Look for a utility like Total Commander. I am afraid it is Windows only tool.
