On Startup chime is heard, then nothing! Can hear a spinning sound, but have no idea what is going on.

Help. Do I need new hard drive...if so, how do I find correct one. Computer will not startup in order to view specs.

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

which Mini do you have?

If less than Mountain Lion, insert an install disk and repair the startup drive.

If Lion or later boot into Recovery and repair the disk
