Q: iPhone Backup

I just updated my iPhone 4S to upgrade to the new OS and to "clean out" my phone I decided to "Restore my Phone" to the factory settings. However, when I try to go in the restore my phone from the backup, its asking me for a password. I don't remember EVER setting up a password for this and I have tried every password I would have possibly used and its not working.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.1

    Hey DBohannan,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

You need the backup password to disable backup encryption or to restore from an encrypted backup.

    iOS: Troubleshooting encrypted backups

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162

You can keep trying to restore the device from backup until you remember the password. If you're having trouble, try:

    • Leaving the password field blank
    • Your Apple ID password
    • Your computer account password, if you have one
    • Email passwords you may have used
    • Your Wi-Fi network password
    • Website passwords you may have used
    • A password for hard-disk encryption software, if you use it

    Have a nice day,

    Mario
