Q: When I sync my iPad I get an error message " Cannot write to Mackintosh HD Unknown error (-4)"  Presumably this means it is not backing up?

Just installed Mavericks on Macbook. When I tried to sync my ipad I get the error message which does not report " Cannot write to Mackintosh HD (Unknown error -4) 

Any ideas how I get the ipad to sync? I could not get the sync to finish as it never completed item 8 "Waiting for items to copy"

MacBook (13-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
