which update is Software Update trying to download when it quits? You might be able to download that update directly through your browser from Apple’s downloads site instead.

have you tried booting into Safe mode, and retrieving the update from Apple’s downloads site then?

The gray text I indicated with the red arow is your model. Please post that BUT do not post your serial number.
If that does not show a model, use this Apple page:
Check Service & Support Coverage
to enter your serial number. This is important because some older MacBook Pro models cannot be upgraded past 10.7 Lion:
