How can i do a "radar graph" in the program: Numbers?

I need to do some Radar Graphs and i can't find the way to do it in Numbers. I really love this program, the solution that i found was buying "Microsoft Excel" but it's the last that i want, just because i am happy with "Numbers". Please help me find the way to do it, if i don't find a solution i will go and buy Excel.

Thanks

Hi Jose,

Wayne's 'radar chart' is indeed wonderful. I have downloaded and saved a copy.

could you explain us how we colud make this kind of graph?

Click around and explore. The circle is a Pie Chart and the white shape is 2-D Scatter on top 🙂.

Click around in the table to see the formulas.

Click on any part of the chart and Edit Data References.

Click on the Pie Chart to see how Wedges, Wedge Labels and Text Boxes are formatted.

Click on the white Scatter Plot then Series in the Format Panel to see how lines were added.

Have fun!

Regards,

Ian.

Hi everyone. Wayne this was 90% of the way there for me. I'm not sure I understand the all the values but I can play a bit.

Here is an example of a graph I'm trying to bring into Numbers.

User uploaded file

The things that I like about this is that the Axis are drawn static distribution. They just are equal distant from each other.

The only fill color is the inside area of the line art. In your graph the radar area doesn't close at the end and there is no way to declare a shape fill for it the shape.

The data is a set of calculated values (all averages, so very basic formulas). instead of Percent it is a 4point scale.

Any help would be appreciated.

The chart vertices are closed but is seems Numbers does not fill the xy scatter chart in the same way as a polar chart may be filled. I do not think it is possible to shade directly they way you want. You can get there by shading at the end with a shape you draw using the "Draw with Pen" :

Numbers does not make this chart type natively so everything in this example is coercing Numbers. There are other tools like DataGraph which may work better for you:

Hi Wayne,

I was looking for building a radar graph when I came across your post on that subject.

It looks like the perfect answer to my needs.

I tried to download from the dropbox link you've shared, unfortunately it gives me a folder with plenty of stuff except a Numbers file.

Would you please be so kind as to share your example file with me ?

I thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards and have a great day.

Unfortunately, as I download from this link I get these files and folders, in which I can't find a 'Numbers' file :

That's a Dropbox thing. Dropbox doesn't always handle Numbers documents very well. One way around this is to choose the 'Download' option rather than 'Save to my Dropbox' and you'll end up with a folder named 'Multitaxis_v4p2 with content in it. Rename the folder to Mulitaxis_v3p2.numbers (i.e., and the .numbers suffix) and all will be well. (You could correct Wayne's typo while you're at it.) A Numbers document is not a file but a "package" containing subfolders and files.f

HI Wayne,

When I put data values greater than 4, the graph doesn't works fine. The line isn't drawn.

I should work with data values ranging from 0 to 100 (percentile values) or with data value ranging from 0 to 10 at least. I would like to draw performance profiles to observe different values of sport performance capacities of an athlete. With this graph I would observe which capacities the athlete should improve more. This is the reason for this range of data values.

Thanks a lot
