I have same problem, installed an ad blocker, and javascript blocker, the following site keeps embedding itself into default web site in safari preferences, i change it and then it reappears the next time i start-up safari.... http://www.only-search.com/?babsrc=HP_tedge&affID=129546 ...notice screenshot below, currently there are 7 ads occupying tabs across top of page
Run AdwareMedic: http://adwaremedic.com.
The fact that you can't access the AdwareMedic site tells me that you've downloaded the "DownLite" adware, as it also blocks that particular site. Here are Linc Davis' instructions for how to remove it: Re: HELP! Malware detected on my Macbook Pro.
if I replace homepage in safari > preferences > General with apple.com...the apps stop, but as soon as I quit safari and reload it...the rogue website embeds itself and here we go again with all the ads...gamefly, mackeeper, scan pc, purifier, etc...
sorry for duplications...been at it for about 6 hours, starting to get double vision😕
