Ok, I am back home now!

I would like to have a lot of apps after I finish reinstalling Mavericks, so this is going to be a long list:

    1- Wolfram Mathematica
    2- Algadoo

3- Comsol Physics (which I downloaded from torrent, but since there are no "internet laws" about this in my country is not illegal and I don't know if installing that will cause a problem. Anyway I would really like to have it after reinstalling)

    4- Octave,gnuplot

5- Fractal, GCM, pmx, g4view, (a bunch of physics apps I use a lot)

6- Adobe package (I know it is one of the sources of the problems, but I really need it and I don't know if there is an unharmful way of installing that other than buying because I can't afford it, so I got it from a torrent)

7- Microsoft Office (which is the same as Adobe)

8- Some Texas Instruments and Canon apps which I can reinstall them from the original CD-s I got

    9- wine+winebottler (maybe)
    10- MacDjView
11- Preinstalled apps wich come with Mavericks (iLife, iWork, etc)

1-5: several of them I do not know. Make sure they are "official", and that they are Mavericks compatible.

    6. Hacked Adobe apps can be very detrimental, maybe we can find altenatives, when you specify which apps.

Look at Gimp already (a photoshop lookalike).

    7. There are several MS-Office look-alikes: all based on OpenOffice: Apache OpenOffice, NeoOffice, LibreOffice, and others. The only important difference is that MS-Office contains Outlook (which is a bit "difficult" in Mac environment). Free or almost free. As good or better than MS-Office.

    8. Be sure that they are Mavericks compatible.

9-10. Don't know, again, check that it is Mavericks compatible.

    11. All Mavericks apps OK.

After this you have enough Ram, I am sure, but a bit more certainly does not harm, make sure you order the correct specs of a good brand (Crucial or OWC often recommended).

    Lex.

It's not about "Internet laws" it's all about  copyrights ©. I'm no lawyer, but I don't believe that it's illegal to download pirated software in most countries, but it is illegal to use it in most. You might want to look into that, but of course you would have to be caught using it in order to be prosecuted.

It's against Terms of Use to discuss "descriptions of processes that break or otherwise 'work around' digital rights management software" any further, but it is important for you to know that a primary source of malware, adware, etc. is pirated software. Sometimes the download is only malware and at other times it was just added to the installation package. Most of the time you won't even know what's being installed. You are on a slippery slope here, so manage your situation carefully.

Make sure that you need these. A great many peripherals work without the need for additional driver software beyond that provided by OS X. That is especially true of disk drives and printers, but also applies to many other USB connected devices.

    9- wine+winebottler (maybe)

Used to run Windows applications, but always at a much lower speed. BootCamp might be a better solution if you have Windows software.

    1. Again about your "wishlist": I would not use Comsol (3). At least wait a few days, to see that you have done everything right.

    2. I also would wait with Wine: it is not really sure that it will not create issues, it is there already a long time, but it has a history of problems.

    3. Reread my comments above.

    4. As Mad says about 'illegal': it is illegal to distribute hacked apps in most countries, not to download them, but the use is illegal also in most countries. For me it is very important that your system can be hacked or 'injured' by installing these torrent downloads (the same goes for apps/tools downloaded from some 'grouping' sites like download.com (Cnet), Softonics, etc. In general it is recommended to download only from developer sites.

    -------------------

    Now for the clean install:

instead of giving the list of actions here you can find them here:

    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-clean-install-os-x-mav ericks-on-my-mac

read it carefully and print the pages and the pages of the links in there.

I propose to do it with a USB stick (8GB), because when you just do it by using the Restore partition, you have to restart after an internet hiccup.

Then follow the steps: make sure you do not forget step 5.

    ------------------

after the install of Mavericks use the Mac to see if everything is OK, then download/install the apps/tools but ONLY the trusted ones, and then not all together, in order of necessity.

Avoid all that were not included as OK in above discussion.

Download Etrecheck and run it after a few and post with the list of what you installed before the list. Then install some more and run a list again with what you installed after the first and before the second list, and so on.

Personally I always restart the mac after each install.

Don't worry about the ram and cpu use in the etrecheck lists in this phase: Spotlight is indexing and all kinds of caches are filled.

    Holy OS Korn Kernels, Batman!!!

    Yes, Lex!

I have never seen such a long list of kexts AND everything else

The OP really needs to just start from scratch and to do a complete clean install of Mavericks and just manually reinstall all applications and for each application, make sure to check for any Mavericks updates for every installed application.

    What a mess!!!

I don't disagree with you here. I have done the same thing using DiskMakerX, but not necessarily for the same reason.

The Recovery Partition method doesn't always need to download anything from the Internet. If you restart using option-command-R then it will always use the Internet, but if you used the 10.9.2 installer for your boot drive initially, then that will already be on the Recovery Partition and will not have to be downloaded from the Internet.

Given that we don't really know what the OP has, your procedure is probably best, but USB sticks installs do take a bit longer.

Hi Michel, YES. But in Windows users PCs I see these things often, but in Mac it is a record I think.

Good, because this can practically only be cleaned by the actions now taking place..

Hi Mad, correct, but 'Recovery Partition method doesn't always need to download anything from the Internet' is not true, only for DU, the OS will be downloaded (remember the Rec partition is about 750MB only).

Let us hope, the OP will avoid all the crap there was at his mac.

You are right, of course, I was thinking of something else.

Apple has managed to shrink the Recovery HD to 650 MB now, which is enough for Safari, needed Utilities and to get the System started, but is still almost 5GB short of a full installation package.

Yesterday i finnished making the bootable USB. Later today I'll install Mavericks! After installing it should I make another test with Etrecheck so you gus can tell if everything went right or it's unneccesary and I should install a couple of apps and then run the test?
