My apple tv is light is just flashing

My kids were watching the tv and said they accidently clicked on update and then they stopped it. Every since then the front light is flashing and will not register on the tv except for showing the update to itunes. What type of cord is that ? How can i get it going again.

I cannot get the settings to show up with remote to do any updates or restore?
