You have adware on the mac.

You have crapware software on the mac.

You have hacked applications on the mac, and your hosts file is compromised.

I have to go in a meeting now, I will come back later today.

Run the Adware Removal Tool while you're waiting for Lex (although I can't spot any obvious adware at the moment).

FlashPlayer is seriously out-of-date, but it's use is blocked by XProtect, so it should not be a security concern you just won't be able to view flash video (or hear flash audio). Update it from System Preferences->Flash Player if you ever need it.

Java 7 is out-of-date and vulnerable. Update it using System Preferences->Java or visit http://www.java.com.

    Hello smisson:

Here I would like to propose a clean install of the OS, and no restore from backups: all software that you want/need has to be freshly installed. I will give a list of the softwares that you must not reinstall, and that list  includes all software that you downloaded via torrents and otherwise hacked software.

Make up your mind, whether you want to do that or whether you want to clean the actual system (this will be a rather timeconsuming job too).

    Get rid of Cocktail.

My macbook pro is running very slow.

More explanation than that would help, much more, since Cocktail is not the only problem. Describe when it is slow. Can you correlate its poor performance to any particular activity? Does it take too long to start up, or to log in, or when you are using any particular program, or when opening any particular problem, or...?

What is the "devguru" software's purpose? Why are you using SMC Fan Control? What is "rapiback"? Why are you using MacFUSE? It is outdated and so are several others. All that extraneous software must be validated for Mavericks compatibility, or uninstalled according to their respective developers' instructions.

Did you read any Apple Support documentation, such as this one: OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly

Here are several more that may help:

General purpose Mac troubleshooting guide: Isolating issues in Mac OS X

Creating a temporary account to isolate user-specific problems: Isolating an issue by using another user account

Memory limitations: OS X Mavericks: About Activity Monitor

Identifying resource hogs and other tips: Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

To identify potential hardware problems: Apple Hardware Test.

To resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance, use Disk Utility.

Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode

Hi John, let us see what preference the OP has, about a clean install. There is so much to get rid of, that he will probably choose that option: especially since we can not trace the badware probably built in the compromised apps.

Please follow here to help me avoid forgetting some things from my side. Together us three will solve this.

Adding that you do not have enough RAM for whatever usage patterns you have on that computer:

    Virtual Memory Information:

        37 MB    Free RAM

        724 MB    Active RAM

        688 MB    Inactive RAM

        1.18 GB    Wired RAM

        23.51 GB    Page-ins

        15.18 GB    Page-outs <----

    The Page-outs are very high.

However, when you get teh other issues sorted this could revert to more normal numbers, so don't rush out and but RAM yet.
