Change Apple ID on iPad, iCloud account

I recently changed the email address associated with my Apple account. It has transitioned everything except I am having difficulty changing my Apple ID on my iPad. The login for my iCloud account keeps popping up with my old Apple ID email address and I can't figure out how to change this on my iPad. This has rendered my iPad virtually unusable. Please help!

Hi Diavonex,

Thanks for the reply, but I wasn't able to log out of the old Apple ID in iCloud on my iPad. The login for the iCloud account kept popping up and I was unable to select the box for Apple ID/associated email address.

Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

Here's what happens:

I turn on my iPad

The login screen for my iCloud account pops up with my old Apple ID

I go to Settings -> iCloud (in between the iCloud account popup coming up constantly) -> attempt to select Apple ID/account and it's unable to be selected.
