song stops playing midway

When I play some songs from my library, the song stops playing maybe 5 seconds in, then the next song in the library plays. There is no problem with the next song in the library. Any ideas? I've tried to convert the song in question to MP3, but I get an error message -(50) but this doesn't work either. Thanks!

Hi williamfrommililani,

I understand that some songs from your iTunes Library stop playing a few seconds in. It sounds to me like there may be an issue with the music files themselves. If the content came from a CD, I would suggest following these steps in this article to remove and reimport the file.

Troubleshooting songs that skip

Make sure song files are not damaged

If a specific song skips when you play it, it may be damaged.

1. Delete the song and update your iPod.

2. Insert the CD you used to import the song and import it again. If the CD is scratched or dirty, iTunes may not be able to import the song. Try cleaning the CD or use a different one. If the song was imported or created using a third-party application, try the following:

  1. Use iTunes to import the content directly from the CD.
  2. Convert the content to an iPod-compatible format using iTunes.

If the music that is stopping was purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store, please follow these steps in this article to remove and redownload the songs.

How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store

Mac or PC

Before you delete, find out if you'll be able to download the song you deleted again (it depends on where you live). To delete a song:

  1. Launch iTunes.
  2. From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
  3. Click Songs in the navigation bar.
  4. Click the song you want to delete.
  5. Press the Delete key on your keyboard.

In iTunes 11, the album cover art will remain visible, but a cloud icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).

Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you won't be able to download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.

Thanks for reaching out,

-Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the detailed analysis.

Let me give you a few more details.

The songs skip when I play them from the song list, or from a playlist. But for some songs, if I go to the album list and play them from there, they're fine.

The songs in question always skip to the next song, but some songs can be fast forwarded towards the end, and played, so there is a gap.

All the songs in question were downloaded from CDs which have long been donated to a public library in a land far, far away, so there is no possibility of redownloading them 😐. I recently discovered songs from my iTunes store "Purchased" list that have been "sound clouded" so I clicked the magic cloud. A few of them can be played, but most exist somewhere in the clouds 😕.

I think you are correct about there being gaps, or the files are damaged, but this is a recent development, me thinks.

Conclusion, I have thousands of songs that I never listen to, so I'll just live without the ones in question. Downsize and simplify is the way to go for me, "All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone." Blaise Pascal

Thanks again...
