Q: How can I enter my passcode into my ipad mini that is disabled?

I have tried to restore my ipad mini following the guide from the community. I am about to connect to itunes and pressed the restore and update button. I got the message that "Your ipad is up to date. Itunes will automatically check for update on 15/05/2014"

It tries to download an item - "ipad software update" which is 1.14GB but comes back with a mesage that "itnues could not connect ipad because it is locked with a passcode.You must enter your passcode on the ipad before it can be used with itues"

The laptop I used to sync the ipad has been stolen. I have an icloud account and i hope I have a back up there since it is supposed to back up automatically.

What can I do to enter my passcode into the ipad as demanded? I should be able to open the ipad to log into my icloud account??

iPad mini Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1.1

If you restore with a computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode.

RECOVERY MODE

1. Turn off iPad

2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.

DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug

5. Release Home button.

ON COMPUTER

6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.

7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Note:

1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup

2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

You need to place your iPad into Recovery Mode.

Follow the instructions very carefully.

I followed the steps but received the message I posted above that "you must enter your passcode on the ipad before it can be used with itunes"..

Recovery Mode do not ask for passcode; you have not follow the 4 steps closely.
