I would like to put the photos currently on my iPhone onto my computer. Into Document/library/photos. how do I transfer them from phone to computer?

I have never taken photos off of my iPhone and now have too many. I would like to download them to my home computer. Into my documents/photos section if possible. I don't know how to get them from the phone to the computer. I have used the iTunes on my computer to back up my phone but don't see how to transfer the photos off the phone and onto the computer...Help.
