Make sure your Mac can run Mavericks > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Disable anti virus softwrare if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
For OS X v10.7 and above, make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.
Hi Carolyn,
I see you have addressed this on multiple occasions with many others, however, I am still having difficulty trying to download Mavericks. I am running an imac with 10.6.8 and am meeting all criteria listed for download. However, when in the app store and I hit download, the download button remains and there is no indication I am downloading.
I just completed repairing all disk permissions (its an older computer with little use), removed all firewalls and restarted, yet I can neither update my existing OS nor can I upload the new Mavericks.
I'm confused as to what to do next.
While this isn't the same problem, it might be worth a try. Try MacJack's solution ... it workt for me! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5474561?answerId=24689114022#24689114022
Thanks for the advice, but have tried all suggestions and still having issues. It starts to download gets just over 1GB then comes back with error failed to download.
