I'll be using CenturyLink as my ISP soon and wondered why I needed a modem as they claim. Couldn't I just simply plug my ethernet cable into my Airport Extreme base station and set up my wireless connection? It seems bizarre that I would plug into a modem, then also plug into Airport Extreme. Thanks so much for your help!

The AirPort Extreme is a router only. It does not have a modem on board. You will need a modem if you want the AirPort Extreme to have access to the Internet.

Thanks a lot! I had no idea this was needed. I lived in Korea for three years and simply plugged into Airport Extreme. Korea knows how to do. Anyway, thanks again!
