Greetings! As most of you are undoubtably aware there is a lighted Apple logo on the display back of the MacBook Pro <pausee for the "duh!">I noticed that when the Mac goes to sleep there is a little light near the display release on the front edge that blinks, brighter then dimmer. I was wondering if there was any software available to change and make the Apple logo blink when the Mac is asleep? That would be cool and look awesome, IMHO. Whatcha think?
God Bless!

I think somehting worth pointing out would be that the hardware involved in lighting up or turnng off the logo is probably not even connected enough to the rest of the computer to be controllable on that level (it's made ot turn on when the computer's open, and turn off when it's closed).
You are probably right, Brian. Sure would have been or should have been a really awesome feature that would be Applesque all the way! And indeed it would be much more visible as a "Sleep Indicator" than this miniscule 1mm light on the Display release button! Ahhhhh, but they forgot to ask me!
I don't know of a solution but as far as i've been able to tell (someone correct me if i'm wrong since i'm a new Mac user) the Apple logo on the display is illuminated by the backlight when the display is on? I think in order to make the Apple logo light up during sleep it would need its own illumination source when the screen is not on or involve leaving the backlight partly on.
Seems like it would be a bigger detriment to battery life than the light currently but no doubt a cool feature.
True, Marko, the Apple logo is probably lit by the screen display; however, with the advances in LED and other lighting sources, something that small, especially only operating during sleep mode with no other resources using the battery, it wouldn't be much of a detriment to battery life, IMHO. Agreed, regardless, it would indeed be cool!
The light for the Apple logo on the back of the display is, without question, provided by the display's backlighting. The only time it is lit is when the display is active, and lit. The only time the display is active, and lit, is when the video card is active. The only time the video card is awake and active is when the computer is awake and active.
In other words, the Apple logo cannot be lit, in any fashion, while the lid is closed.
Well I think everyone thusfar has aggreed that, assuming it is possible, installing an LED device that activates only when the computer is asleep (when awake the backlight can illuminate it), in the Aple logo as a sleep indicator would be a useful and interesting feature. There could also be a simple setting that allows you to turn it off.
Scott, pardon, this newbie Apple convert, but if there is a light indicating through it's pulsing bright and dim that the Mac is asleep; then, to be sure, there is a way to do the same with the Apple logo. Certainly, there would be need to be additional hardware as well as software; however, with Apple's ingenuity and desire for upscale design, it's an idea worthy of a patent.
Well here's an idea, albeit an imperfect one. This would allow you to let the logo pulse during a screensaveer, not during sleep, and unless you can get a screensaver to continue when you close the lid it won't work when it's closed. Anyway here it us: have a screensaver that pulses the apple logo on the screen in the exact position of the logo on the back of the screen. This woupld ahve the effect of pulsing the logo.
