2 hour battery life when running Windows 8.1 on rMBP

Hi,

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I installed Windows 8.1 with bootcamp on it. However, the battery life is absolutely horrible. I get about 2 hours of battery life doing light tasks that would get me 8-9 hours of battery life on OS X. Task manager shows minimal CPU usage, like <5% most of the time. The laptop also runs extremely hot. I know Windows does not run well on Macs, but this is unusable. Is this normal? What can I do to get better battery life on Windows?

Thanks

I installed Win 8.1 on a late 2013 15 retina only last week and on the high performance power plan it's just over 3 hours of battery life. With no integrated/discrete graphics switching You can extend it slightly by tweaking the power manangement settings to balanced and adjusting the power settings in the Nvidia control panel but that has the drawback of sacrificing the performance of the PCIe SSD which drops a lot when not on max performance setting.

This poor battery life under windows is one of the reasons why I use a 2011 17 inch MBP, the huge battery gives me over 4 hours use in Windows 7 x64 with bootcamp!

Macsfancontrol is a must for bootcamp users
