Q: My Macbook Pro is not starting up

So my Macbook has had some loading problems with the colorwheel, and not allowing me to click on various applications as well as just taking an extensive time to load. I turned the computer off and then attempted to turn it back on. Upon turning the computer back on, my Macbook took me to a white screen with the apple logo and a spinning wheel as if it was loading.

I have attempted to start it in safe mode and the computer comes up with a sign like except a diagonal line. I have also tried reseting the PRAM, but my Macbook just goes straight to the apple logo and the wheel. I have attempted holding command and r, nothing happens; command and s, nothing happens and it seems like the computer is forever stuck on that logo. I left it loading for a full 18 hours and it never started up to the desktop which makes me a little worried.

Any advice on what to do other than take it to the gods at the apple store to have it erased and to start over? I don't mind losing all of my stuff on the computer right now, I don't really have anything important on there. My Macbook is only about a 2011 model I think... I can't really open up the mac to tell you exactly what model it is but it should be around that date of manufacture.

ANY AND ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Other OS, It is on OS X but not sure which 1

    AndrewMac21,

did your MacBook Pro originally come with two grey installation DVDs in the box? If so, do you still have them?

I do not remember the Macbook Pro coming with any DVD's and upon inspection of the box where I kept all of the information for the Macbook Pro, I did not see any. Looking at the box all I can see is the note that says it was a 2011 Apple product. It is a 13 inch LED-backlit widescreen notebook according to the box. 2.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor.

    AndrewMac21,

since it has a 2.4 GHz CPU, it’s a Late 2011 model; thus, it didn’t come with any grey DVDs, and instead uses OS X Internet Recovery for reloading its originally installed version of OS X. If you currently can’t get into Recovery mode via ⌘R, then that limits your diagnosis options.

Do you have access to a FireWire cable and a second Mac with a FireWire port? If so, then you could try booting your MacBook Pro into Target Disk mode, so that it will be treated as an external disk by the second Mac; this would allow you to completely erase your MacBook Pro’s internal disk using Disk Utility on the second Mac, which in turn should allow your MacBook Pro to run OS X Internet Recovery to reload Lion from Apple’s servers.

Alternatively, you could purchase another hard drive, install it in place of your current hard drive, and try to get Lion on the new drive via OS X Internet Recovery. Once the new drive is usable, you could erase the old drive, restore Lion on your original drive, put it back in your MacBook Pro, and use the new drive as a Time Machine backup destination.
