Since I'm not sure which iPod nano you have, you might want to start here:

Selecting the iPod nano (7th generation) for example, then the troubleshooting section shows this article:

Verify that you have firmly connected the headphones to the headphone jack on your iPod nano. The cable should be flush against the iPod with no visible gap.

May 9, 2014 4:36 PM in response to Jackie 1by Mazzaa,★HelpfulI saw this video on you tube, try cleaning the iPod jack by scraping fluff using a needle. It worked for me.
