Question

Compact Flash reader for Express Card 34/slot

Is there a Compact Flash Card (CF) reader for the Express Card 34/slot?? My digital cameras all use CF cards and I travel a lot -- I hate to carry more cables.

I use a CF card reader for my current 15" AL PB (PCI) - and I would need one for the Express Card 34/slot if I order the new 17" MacBook Pro.

The only ones I've seen is a 54mm version which is not compatible. I myself have a 12" PowerBook and been usin this USB Reader for quite some time now with no problems. And it's USB 2.0.

The ExpressCard/34 slot is narrower than a CF card.

That one will fit the 54 slot - but NOT the 34 slot.

The 34 slot card reader is for SD cards, not CF - if I can do the Japanese - or see the photos.

It's always something... 54mm, 34mm. Can't we have standard products? Why doesn't everybody use the 34mm?

On that site, I saw a 5 in 1 reader and a 4 in 1 reader, both 34mm, one was in japanese though, and the 5-in-1 one didnt mention CF or CFII cards

Clearly neither are for CF as the reader is shown as the card width of 34mm, and as someone else pointed out here (from the picture, as I read no Japanese), the CF card is wider than 34mm!

We use CF professional. We use the Lexar FW readers, they are reliable and fast ( 4 GB in less the 6 min.). There is no 34 Express CF reader!

YES,---I also use SanDisk 4GB CF cards - and I have the firewire CF card reader.
But, the advantage of the PCI plug-in reader was that there was one less cord and one less box to pack for a long trip by air - or to lose in a motel in Montana. Surely someone can find a way to have a CF width on one end and a 34/ width on the other end.
No wonder that more and more new cameras - including professional models - are going to Secure Digital.

This is one more reason to keep my credit card in my pocket when I look at the 17 inch MacBook Pro - that and a working air/car power plug with a MagSafe connector. My 15 inch AL PB will do fine for a bit longer - and Photoshop CS3 is not out yet anyway.
