Saving photos to an iPad

My sister is trying to create my wedding slideshow on her iPad. I emailed her photos from my MacBook and she saved them to her iPad. But, when she opens them in iphoto a few of them look normal but most of them are very small and blurry. What is causing this to happen and how can we fix it?
