Why does DataDetectorsActionService try to contact Apple?

Most times I find that the DataDetectors that let you e.g. make a calendar entry from a date given in an email quite useful. However, LittleSnitch tells me that the DataDetectorsActionService tries to connect to gsp1.apple.com every time I do this? Why should it try to send any information about this to Apple?

Mavericks added some new capabilities to the Calendar app. When you add an event and you do things like fill in the Add Location field, Calendar connects with Apple to get the location, the weather, and a map thumbnail for the event. I believe these data requests are what causes the connection to the Internet.

If you don't care about having enhanced calendar information, see if the requests go down if you uncheck View/Show Travel Time. Sometimes I just let Little Snitch block it if I don't need the additional info.

Note that if you are syncing the calendar to your other devices through iCloud, that will cause it to send all the event information to Apple's servers, not just the location.
