Since you have a G5 iMac which has a PowerPC processor the highest version of OS X it can run is Leopard 10.5.

If a Mac can run Snow Leopard, there is no need to install LeLeopard first.

Leopard can not be downloaded. You must purchase it on CD. Apple no longer produces them. They are only available from someplace like Amazon or eBay. Expect to pay about $200 for them.

Why do you need to upgrade?

If you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, then you are going to need a new Mac that can run it.
