Mac Mini Mavericks Server 2nd Partition greyed out

I have several OSX 10.9.2 Mac Minis running Server 3.1.1

All are configure in the same way with one disk holding the OS, the second disk being shared on the network for production.

I have 20 users working off these servers and have an issue with one of them:

Our Server018 is probably the most used with production staff running a varity of clients from XP (not for much longer), Win 7.1, OSX 10.5 to 10.9.2.

This one problem server has lost the disk icon on the desktop and on the clients.

The clients can still connect OK and work off the server.

The only way I can see the disk on the desktop is to use Deeper to expose hidden desktop items and then it becomes visible.

I keep running Disk Utility on it which shows errors as shown below.

Repairs it all and then all OK (disk permission) for couple of days then it comes back.

However, I still can not get the disk to become visible...

Any ideas greafully received

Carl

PS, the disk is being shared with AFP and SMB

Then

ay-server017:~ Administrator$ diskutil mountDisk disk1s2

Volume(s) mounted successfully

ay-server017:~ Administrator$

Still no joy or error message.

I can view the disk if I use Deeper app to show invisible items on the desktop.

I have been informed that the disk utility issue may be a red herring as you can only verify permissions on a disk that has an OS installed.

Just for the record, when working on one of the disks/server, this is what I am seeing on my local Mac when I select the folder name whilst holding the command key.
