Q: If I purchase a new ipad, how do I transfer all my games etc on to my new device without losing data?

I would like to purchase a new ipad mini for my son's birthday as he currently uses mine to play gamews etc (Minecraft, Terraria etc).

If I do purchase a new device how can I transfer all of his apps across without losing his data/scores etc.

Thanks!

Mac mini, iOS 7.1.1

I'm looking to do the same thing.  I tried these steps, and while it did make the new iPad just like the old one, his game data didn't transfer (Terraria specifically).  His game characters and worlds are not on the new iPad.  Is there something else I can try?

Sadly, Terraria game data will not transfer to another iPad, despite making a full backup using iTunes. Note that Terraria now has Cloud Save using iCloud but the characters and levels need to be specifically iCloud characters and levels. Those created offline (not using the specific iCloud format) will not transfer over. Your child may have to start all over again from scratch. I ran into this exact same issue when we updated my child's iPad and the save data didn't transfer over. He was devastated that he lost all of his progress.

In reality, ALWAYS expect to lose some kind of data when updating your iDevice, despite having numerous backups. Not everything is always saved.
