Q: If I wish to upgrade the memory on my late 2009 iMac should I go for a pair of 2GB cards or a Pair of 4GB cards. These would be installed in the two spare slots with the other two occupied by the original pair of 2GB cards. Do you need to balance the slot
I am thinking of upgrading the memory on my iMac late 2009 model to hopefully speed things up a bit. The question I have is should I buy a pair of 2GB memory cards or does it not matter if I have 2x4GB cards in one pair of slots with the other two slots occupied by the original 2x2GB. Is it neccesary to have the same size memory in each slot is really my question.
iMac, iOS 5.0.1

Rule of thumb regarding ram...always buy at least as much as you can afford. I have a late 2009 with the original 2x2 and Crucial 2x4 for a total of 12gb and it runs great. Just put your new 4gb sticks in the empty slots. Buy from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com avoid the temptation to save a buck or two.
