How to clear iPhoto cache

Hello fellow iMac users,

I need help on how to clear the iPhoto cache. This is the scenario when I import images to iPhoto through Flash Card from my Canon Camera. After importing images from Flash Card, I transfered the images in iPhoto to external hard drive and once it has been transfered I deleted the images in iPhoto. I noticed that iPhoto Libary size is gaining MB, from 190 mb to 735 mb. So I viewed iPhoto Library to its Show Package Content and I could not find a cache folder for this matter, similar with iPod Photo Cache Folder. But I observed that on the Masters folder, Previews Folder and Thumbnails Folder have those images that has been imported. Since I am afraid, for now, to move inside the three folders (masters, previews, and thumbnails) to the Trash so I need help to which any of those folders are best to delete?

None of them if you want to use iPhoto to manage your Photos. The whole library if you don't.

If all you use iPhoto for is to transfer the images to your machine, then don't use it. Use Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) for that.

1 - you can not delete or modify anything inside the iPhto library using the finder without corrupting yoru library

2 - how are you deleting? If you delete form an event and then empty the iPhoto trash the photos is gone form iPhoto - all versions and edits, etc are gone - depending on the version of iPhoto (which you do not share) you may have to empty the system trash too

3 - As TD notes you need to make a decision - if you are going to use iPhoto then do - if you are not then don't and use Image capture or the finder - iPhoto is not a photo viewer and it is no an efficient photo downloader - Image capture is designed specifically for "capturing" and preview for viewing

2. okay, I need more help on what you said "...you may have to empty the system trash too." More explanation please.

With the introduction of iPhoto 9 (11) when photos are deleted from an iPhoto library and it's library emptied the files are moved to the Trash bin in the Dock. This gives the user a second chance at recovering photos accidently deleted from the library.

To remove the files from the hard drive the Trash bin in the dock must be emptied as Larry pointed out.

So once again Exactly How Are You Deleting the photos?

It is impossible to assist if you continue to refuse to answer questions and tell us what you are doing

That was what I did , deleting the iPhoto images in the events and empty the trash BUT the capacity of iPhoto Library IS STILL THE SAME - 700MB. What will I do next?
