Q: Dysfunctional airdrop

My ipad air cannot detect any other devices or being detected by other devices for air drop even though ive turned on my air drop and make it visible to everyone. Is there any particular reasons for it to be happening?

iPad, iOS 7

I find it a little touchy as well, but it generally works ok for me.  both devices need to have it turned on, and with the proper contact setting.  And in fairly close proximity to each other - say 5 feet.  and it can take a few seconds to actually establish the connection.   Does it work with anybody at all?
