How do I get my profile pic to appear in my text messages on my 4s iPhone ? I have a profile pic in my contact list and it appears when texting using my IPad but not my IPhone. However, my friends in my contact list who have pics DO appear on my phone when we are texting.

The profile picture will not appear on your phone, but will appear on other's phones if they have a picture associated with your contact on their devices. You don't need to see what you look like, you already know by looking in the mirror. This is how the group texts work. Your messages are the ones in color, either blue for iMessage or green for SMS. That is how you differentiate your responses.
Funny, I do know what I look like. However, I have both my hubby iPhone and mine in hand. I checked and we both have identified ourselves in our contact info. "ME" appears by "Richard" his name on his phone & likewise by Terri on my phone. In his contact list there is a pic of me, in my list a pic of him. We have sent each other text but his pic does not appear by the "blue"message on my phone NOR does my pic appear on his phone.
Are you sharing an Apple ID?
If so, that may be the problem. It would be like setting two photos to the same contact.
Best practice is to have separate Apple IDs if for nothing else but iMessage, FaceTime & iCloud.
You can always still share one for purchases.
Try editting the settings here appropriately for each device:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > make sure on your device only your number is selected in both sections and do the same on his phone.
While you are at it you may want to look at the same settings for FaceTime:
Settings > FaceTime

Correct.
You will not see a photo of anyome in the Messages app on the iPhone.

On a Group iMessage, you will. I'm seeing in on my own iPhone right now in a Group iMessage.
Yes, we share an Apple ID. We have one IPad and an IPhone each. Would you please walk me through how to get a second Apple ID? Then I can follow your instructions in prior message.

After creating the new ID, sign in with your separate IDs here:
Settings > iCloud
Settings > Mesaages
Settings > FaceTime
Settings > Game Center
And with your shared one for purchases here:
Settings > iTunes and App Store
Did you tell the iPhone who you were as I suggested in your other post?
Yes, did as you said. In my contact list, now it has ME by my contact info. Sent hubby message but still NO profile pic of me appears on my phone...I don't know about on his phone yet.
He has to have a picture set for you in his contacts. Contact photos are not sent as part of the message but are instead pulled from the contact card on that individuals device.
