Bluetooth Lav Microphone for podcasting lectures

Hi,

I'm going to record my lectures as podcasts this year. However, when i teach i don't stand behind a lecturn and mic. So, is there a (cheap) wireless solution, such as a bluetooth lav mic? The audio quality doesn't matter much. I could just use the built in laptop mic, but i'm not sure how much of my voice (and background noise) would be picked up. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Grant.

I have been doing this sort of thing now for over a year. The mic is the hardest part...if you do move around a fair amount, you do need a wireless mic. Forget bluetooth, I was hoping for the same thing. The head-set option is one (for mobile phones), but the range is not very good, and the sound atrocious. A very good audio-quality for a relatively low price is this solution

NADY wireless lapel

This is the next level (much better value)

Samson Stage 5 Lavalier

Then it gets really expensive, so I spare you that...

The built-in mic is not that bad, actually - you just need to be not too far from the Mac and crank it all up. The down-side is ALL the background noise gets picked up big time, which doesn't make for good listening over headphones.

So the lavalier is your best shot.

Be absolutely sure to check out (and I strongly recommend using) ProfCast http://www.profcast.com . This has saved me hours of work and does a wonderful job at producing a real "lecture experience" that students really appreciate. The lecture together with the slides exactly the way they see them in class! In the latest version you can even take screen shots when you browse the web or show other things. It's simply amazing (and no, unfortunately I am not affiliated with them or get some kickbacks 😉

Hope that helps!

Just get a cable that connects from the wireless receiver into the line-in of the MacBook. The Samson has a1/4" out (the big, long one often used for mics or larger headphones), so you need a cable that has a 1/4" on the one side and a 1/8" mini-jack, the the small ones that for example the iPod headphones use on the other - that one simply plugs in on the MacBook. You can get them at any store that sells cables. The description says it comes with a 1/4" connector cable, so you would only need an adapter from 1/4" to 1/8" - maybe you even have that at home (for example, when you bought headphones, they often ship with an adapter from the 1/4 on the 1/8). You could also just order it from them <http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-HOS-CMP303--m-11_18.html> that's a cable that will get you the mono signal from the receiver into the Mac. There's also a stereo one <http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-HOS-CMS103--m-11_18.html>, but as you will only get a mono signal from the mic, you might as well go for that cable. Hope that helps!
