Q: Error in Core MIDI

I am experiencing problems with Logic X.  I purchased and downloaded it from the App store last month as an upgrade to Logic Studio 8.  I am running OS X 10.9.2 on the following platform:

Hardware Overview:

  Model Name:          iMac

  Model Identifier:          iMac7,1

Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo

  Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz

  Number of Processors:          1

  Total Number of Cores:          2

  L2 Cache:          4 MB

  Memory:          4 GB

  Bus Speed:          800 MHz

  Boot ROM Version:          IM71.007A.B03

  SMC Version (system):          1.20f4

In the last couple of days I have encountered horrific latency of over 20 seconds when endeavouring to use either Logic X or the latest version of Grageband.  Also my old reliable Edirol FA-101 is behaving poorly clipping and not showing up in the Preferences list on the Mac.  I have a roland U20 and Gr33 Synth and an old Yamaha PSS 480  connected to the FA-101 through a Quadra Mere 4 and Quadra Thru 4 to the FA-101.

In my Audio MIDI info window I have the following:

Core Audio Bundle                                                                                      Version

CoreAudio.framework                                                                                  4.2.0

CarbonSound.framework                                                                              4.1

Which might as well be Sanskrit.  Is there anyone out there who can help me get my creative life back?

Oh and this all seemed to start when Apple Loops was tring to download additional content, which never did install."GIGANTIC!  GIGANTIC!"

Thanks in advance,
