Accidentally Shot 1920 x 1080, 60i

Shot some footage today using two DSLR cameras. One was incorrectly set to 1920 x 1080 60i and when I imported into FCP, the video is not smooth. tried exporting it and got the same result. The other video was shot 24fps. I brought a 60i clip into the project window and exported it using H.264 but no luck. Not sure what to do here or what I have have done wrong. I suspect you may need more information and I would be glad to give it to you on request. I am a bit of an amatuer (obviously) and I may need someone to walk me through it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply. I agree that something odd is happening here. FYI when I run the files through quiktime, they also do not run smoothly. In other words, I imported the files through FCP and after the clips didn't ruyn smoothly, I went to the Event Folder/Original Media and tried to play the clips that way (through Quicktime) and I got the same issue. Does that tell you anything? When I play the clips on the camera they play fine. Is there perhaps an import setting error?

I tired reset speed but it did not change things. Also, there was no place to reset the speed to 24p. I assume the project is set to 60i since I assumed FCP sets the project to the first clip that is dropped into the project.

Does any of this make sense to you?

Thanks

When you click Reset Speed it makes the selected clip run at the speed of the project.

Right, but isn't the speed of the project going to be 60fps since the first clip imported into the project was the 60i clip? if that is so, resetting the speed would have no impact since the clip is already at 60fps. or am I missing something?

I can't think of anything else that may be helpful but possibly someone else can . . . . please feel free to chip in.

Appreciate the response Ian. Thanks!

60i means 60 FIELDS per second . . . . there are 2 fields to every frame in interlaced footage.

So 60i is not 60fps, it's 30fps.

If your project is 30fps and you select the 24p clips and reset them, they too will play at 30fps, so they will speed up (I originally, incorrectly said slow down).

Alternatively you could make a 24p project and reset the 60i clips to play at 24fps in which case they will slow down.
